The trade-off with marble
Marble is a calcite-based stone, which means acids etch it. Lemon juice, vinegar, and some cleaners leave dull spots that are chemical, not dirt. Many homeowners accept this and treat the patina as part of the material's character. Others prefer a quartz product with a marble-look pattern.
We would rather explain this before installation than after.
Best applications
Marble performs well on bathroom vanities, fireplace surrounds, and baking or pastry stations where its cool surface is an advantage and acid exposure is limited.
Finishes that hide wear
A honed finish shows etching far less than a polished finish, because the surface already has a matte sheen. Lighter marbles with soft veining also hide small marks better than dark, high-contrast stone.
